Nicole Krakora

Nicole L. Krakora is the Director of Special Events and Protocol at the Smithsonian Institution, a position she has held since June 1995. She is responsible for planning, programming, managing, and advancing the Institution’s major special events, including museum openings, fund raising galas, exhibition openings, dignitary and heads of State visits, board meetings, conferences and symposia for the world’s largest museum and research complex.

 

Nicole serves as the Smithsonian’s Chief Protocol Officer and Director of Advance and is the principal advisor to the Board of Regents, the Secretary, the Deputy Secretary, the Under Secretaries and other executive management on matters of protocol and events working in close collaboration with the Office of Government Relations. She serves as the principal liaison between the Smithsonian and the White House, the Administration, the State Department and other Cabinet-level offices, Congress, the Secret Service, embassies and the diplomatic corps on matters of special event protocol and logistics. Since 1988, Nicole has produced, been involved in, and/or advanced numerous events involving heads of state, world leaders, high-level U.S. and foreign dignitaries, and other VIP guests and honorees.

 

Trained and certified by the Protocol School of Washington®, she also provides individual and group instruction in International, Business, and Children’s Protocol and Etiquette; Dining Etiquette; and Taking Tea. She is an active member of Protocol and Diplomacy International – Protocol Officers Association (PDI-POA), the International Special Events Society (ISES), the Council of Protocol Executives (COPE), the Special Events Sites Marketing Alliance (SESMA) and the American Institute of Wine and Food (AIWF).
